He graduated as a lawyer in Germany (University of Munich – l. jur. Staatsprüfung), France (University of Paris II – Maîtrise en Droit) and Costa Rica (Universidad Autónoma de Centroamérica – Licenciado en Derecho y Notario Público). He is presenting his doctoral thesis in World Trade Law, European Union law and Constitutional Law at the Freie Universität in Berlin.

Attorney at Law and Notary Public in Costa Rica, he was also accepted as a full Member of the Berlin Bar Association in 1996 (2. Jur Staatsprüfung – Zulassung beim Kammergericht Berlin). From 1996 to 1998 he worked as a lawyer in a franco-german Law Firm in Berlin. He was Consul General and Minister Counselor for Commercial and Economic Affairs of Costa Rica in France (1998-2002). Mr. Niehaus M. is fluent in Spanish, English, German and French.
