He is an attorney at Law and a Notary Public by the Universidad Autónoma de Centroamérica. He is also a Journalist by the Universidad Autónoma de Centroamérica,

He was a member of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Finances (1995), advisor to the Ministry of Government and Police (1988-1989), and a legal advisor to the Costa Rican government at the International Court of Justice in The Hague (1986-1988). Additionally, he was a Registrar at the Public Registry (1982-1984).

He is a member to the Costa Rican Bar Association. He speaks Spanish and English.
